The Bureau of Modal Programs is responsible for meeting various transportation needs for Alabama citizens. These programs include Rail which maintains rapport with various railroad companies in the planning and implementation of rail/highway safety projects; Safety which maintains the oversight and management of various programmatic safety programs to establish a systematic approach to reducing the number and severity of vehicle crashes; Safety Operations which administers the Safety Operations Program to reduce traffic crashes through the application of traffic and highway engineering principles; Special Programs which administers the Transportation Enhancement, Bicycle and Pedestrian, and the Transportation Community and System Preservation Pilot Programs and Transit which administers rural and urban public transportation.
