John Lorentson is a career ALDOT employee with over 40 years of service. He started his career as an hourly laborer and then worked his way through the Engineering Assistant ranks, with experience in both maintenance and construction activities. In 1989 he was assigned District Engineer duties in the Montgomery area. He was promoted to Assistant State Maintenance Engineer in the Central Office in 1994 and then State Maintenance Engineer in 1998. He held that position for approximately ten years when he then returned to the Sixth Division as Division Engineer in 2008.
On March 1, 2013 John was appointed Deputy Director for Operations by Transportation Director John Cooper and Governor Robert Bentley.
John is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Alabama.
He is married to the former Karen Helton, has two children and three grandchildren, who all reside near the Montgomery area.
