The Preliminary Engineering Division is made up of 4 sections: Environmental Technical, Stormwater, Environmental Coordination, and Location. The Environmental Technical section prepares documents and obtains the environmental clearances for federally funded transportation projects. This office also obtains all environmental permits needed for transportation Projects. The Environmental Coordination section exists to provide internal support, guidance and advice as ALDOT identifies its environmental responsibilities and executes its environmental response efforts. The location section operates five statewide survey crews, manages aerial photography agreements, and operates the Global Positioning System (GPS) that utilizes satellite to establish ground control in remote areas.
