Employees may designate that their paycheck be deposited directly into the financial institution of their choice. Direct deposit is available to all permanent employees.
Employees may elect to contribute to a deferred compensation plan through payroll deduction. Two programs are available that have excellent records of providing good returns for the money invested. Employees may elect to contribute to the deferred compensation plan offered by the Retirement Systems of Alabama and/or by Great-West Retirement Services. Contributions to these plans are tax deferred by the Federal Government.
The Retirement Systems of Alabama administers the RSA-1 Deferred Compensation Plan. Great-West Retirement Services offers a self-directed plan.

After 5 years of service with the State of Alabama, employees begin receiving a Longevity Bonus. This annual bonus increases by an additional $100 every 5 years.
The following reflects the Longevity Bonus received based
upon the number of years of State service:

All full-time, regular employees of the State of Alabama are
eligible for membership in the Alabama State Employees' Credit

The Alabama Department of Transportation participates in the
State Employee Assistance Program. The Department provides
confidential counseling, assessment, or referral activities to
enhance its employees' well being.
The State Employee Assistance Program helps employees whose work performance or quality of life is being adversely affected by problems such as home and family issues, health problems, substance abuse, or mental/emotional problems.
