ALDOT held a public involvement meeting for an access management corridor study of US-78 in Jasper on October 29, 2024. At this time, there is no ALDOT project planned. However, the City of Jasper was awarded an ATRIP project for access management improvements along US-78, from Walston Bridge Road to Fernway Drive, a distance of approximately half a mile. The City of Jasper is managing the project, which is currently in the preliminary engineering and design phase. A public involvement meeting will be held specifically for the ATRIP project and the City of Jasper will address any public comments related to the project.
Project Overview
Location: Jasper (Walker County)
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is developing an access management plan in Jasper, Walker County along the AL-5/AL-69/AL-118
(US-78) corridor that will preserve roadway capacity and maintain traffic mobility while reducing conflict points that degrade the roadway’s safety performance. The project limits extend from the intersection of AL-118 and Gamble Road on the western end to the intersection of AL-5 and Hollis Crump Drive on the eastern end.
Access management along the corridor will include median opening closures, median opening relocations, driveway consolidations/closures, turn lane construction, turn lane extensions and roadway realignments. The study proposes 18 median openings to be closed, 91 existing driveways to be closed, and 23 other driveways to be modified.
