Welcome to ALDOT
The project is in Lauderdale County, on US Highway 72, known locally as Florence Boulevard, between the
cities of Florence and Killen. The project begins near CR-323, which is Bailey Springs Road to the north
and Indian Springs Drive to the south. It ends near Harris Drive, just before the Shoal Creek bridge. This
project is approximately a mile-and-a-half in length.
This project will entail the widening of the existing four-lane roadway to six lanes by adding a travel lane
in each direction. In general, the additional lane will be built on the outside of each side of the highway.
A grass median will be maintained.
A 10-ft shared-use path will be built along the south side of the roadway, providing a dedicated area for
bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
Acquisition of additional right-of-way is expected to begin in the Fall of 2020. Utilities relocations are
expected to begin in the Spring of 2021.
The project is scheduled for construction in the Summer 2021 in accordance with the targets associated with the
federal BUILD (Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development) grant funding. Expected completion of the
project will be around late- 2023 or the mid- 2024.
ALDOT is conducting online public involvement for the proposed project. The commenting period will close for
this project on September 21, 2020.
