Online Public Involvement: I-65 Add Lanes and Replace Bridges

Online Public Involvement: I-65 Add Lanes

Project Overview

Location: Calera/Alabaster (Shelby County)

Three projects are proposed for adding a travel lane to the northbound and southbound roadways of I- 65 between the cities of Calera to Alabaster. Existing I-65, in this corridor, is a 4-lane divided roadway, with three sets of bridges. The construction of the additional lanes will be accomplished by widening towards the median. The existing bridges will be replaced and constructed to match the widened roadway. When completed the, the proposed roadway improvements will provide a six-lane facility. Three lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions. Improvements to Exit 234 will include the construction of loop ramp from eastbound CR-87 to northbound I-65 to eliminate the existing left turn traffic delays at the northbound I-65 on ramp. Acquisition of additional right-of-way is not anticipated but may be required.

The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is interested in obtaining input from the people who use this route. Thank you for visiting our website.
