ALDOT Historic Preservation and Consultation

Section 106 coordination is an essential part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process for proposed transportation projects. Coordination with stakeholders (persons or groups with a specific interest in the project) and the public continues throughout the environmental process and preliminary design stages of proposed improvements to ensure that local interests and needs are considered by decision makers.

National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 Section 106

Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act requires that each federal agency identify and assess the effects its actions may have on historic properties. Under Section 106, each federal agency must consider public views and concerns about historic preservation issues when making final project decisions.

Consulting Parties

Per Federal Regulation 36CFR800, a Section 106 Consulting Party are individuals and organizations with a demonstrated interest in the project. As a Consulting Party you may participate in the Section 106 review due to the nature of your legal or economic relation to the undertaking or affected properties, or your concern with the undertaking’s effects on historic properties.

Who are Consulting Parties?

Certain individuals and organizations with a demonstrated interest in the undertaking may participate as consulting parties due to the nature of their legal or economic relation to the undertaking or affected properties, or their concern with the undertaking's effects on historic properties.
