Project Overview

Location: Carrollton (Pickens County)

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is in the preliminary engineering phase of a resurfacing project on SR-17, stretching from Dillburg Road to the Courthouse Square in Carrollton, Pickens County. This project aims to enhance pavement quality and improve safety by reducing the existing two thru lanes to one thru lane between Old C’ton-A’ville Road/Ray Bass Highway and the Courthouse Square.

By simplifying the lane configuration over this short segment, the project seeks to encourage slower driving speeds, increase visibility of potential hazards, and facilitate safer pedestrian crossings. The lane reduction will help eliminate speed differentials that can lead to crashes, as vehicles will travel at a similar pace. Overall, this initiative is focused on creating a safer and more efficient roadway for both drivers and pedestrians.

The Department is very interested in the potential social, economic and environmental effects of this project; therefore, any comments from groups, individuals, public officials or agencies relative to these effects, both positive and negative, will be considered during development of plans and all subsequent environmental studies.

All comments regarding this project must be submitted on or before Thursday, December 19, 2024.
