What is the
Intercity Bus program?

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is charged by Alabama's Governor to oversee Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds flowing to transit operations in Alabama.

Congress apportions several million dollars per year to rural transit providers that provide residents access to basic services such as health care shopping, and recreation. Beginning with the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, Congress required states to allocate a portion (currently 15%) of the 5311 funds to support intercity bus service. Those allocated funds are termed 5311(f) funds.
