Online Public Involvement: Updated: Intersection Improvements on US-72

Project Overview

Location: Athens (Limestone County)

ALDOT is currently proposing to improve the intersection of US-72 and Cambridge Lane in the City of Athens, Limestone County. Limited sight distance while maneuvering in and out of the median crossover at this intersection presents a safety concern for the traveling public.

Public involvement for the proposed project was initially conducted in September 2023. At that time, the project design included the installation of a reduced-conflict intersection. Due to input provided at the initial public involvement meeting and additional traffic studies, changes were made to the project design. ALDOT now proposes to install a traffic signal at the intersection to address safety concerns.

The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is interested in obtaining input from the people who use this route.
