Project Overview

Location: Northport (Tuscaloosa County)

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is developing an access management plan for the AL-69/Lurleen Wallace Boulevard corridor in Northport, Tuscaloosa County. This plan aims to preserve roadway capacity, improve traffic flow and enhance safety by reducing conflict points. The project spans from the intersection of the AL-69 ramps and 5th Street to the intersection of AL-69 and Northwood Lake Drive.

AL-69/Lurleen Wallace Blvd is classified as principal arterial roadway which means that it carries a major portion of trips entering and leaving the city. The annual average daily traffic (AADT) for this corridor is approximately 40,000 vehicles. Operationally, the primary goal is to service north/south movement of traffic along AL-69/Lurleen Wallace Blvd while providing reasonable, efficient, and safe access to adjacent developments or side streets.

The access management plan along the corridor proposes traffic signal modifications, striping modifications, turn lane extensions, roadway realignment, median construction, closure of median openings, closure of driveways and modifications of driveways.

The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project.
