Project Overview

Update: ALDOT initially held public involvement for the proposed project in October 2025. At that time, traffic control during construction was advertised as intermittent lane closures. As the project design has progressed, it has been determined that roadway closure will be necessary during construction of the culvert. Traffic on US-11 will be detoured to I-59. Northbound thru traffic will be diverted to I-59 Exit 154 with a return at I-59 Exit 156. Southbound thru traffic will be diverted to I-59 Exit 156 with a return at I-59 Exit 154. The detour is less than 5 miles long and is anticipated to be in place for approximately 1-2 months.
ALDOT, in cooperation with the City of Springville, is proposing improvements along AL-7 (US-11) to address concerns regarding flooding, edge of pavement drop-offs, pedestrian safety, and congestion. The proposed project will install a concrete culvert in the existing open ditch along the east side of US-11, widen the roadway to accommodate a center turn lane, and replace the existing sidewalk, as necessary, throughout the project limits. Additional right-of-way will be needed for the project.
