The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is developing a widening project along AL-180/AL-161. The proposed project is located near Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in Baldwin County, Alabama. The project will include the widening of AL-180 from Beaver Creek Lane to the Foley Beach Express. This roadway section is currently two (2) lanes. The project proposes to add a lane in the eastbound direction as well as add a center turn lane. No additional right of way will be required.
There will be additional work in the area of the proposed project. ALDOT will be transitioning the Foley Beach Express and the newly constructed Waterway (AL-161) into one way pairs. This meaning, that the existing Foley Beach Express (AL-161) will no longer be carrying northbound and southbound traffic. Only Northbound traffic will be able to utilize the Foley Beach Express. Southbound traffic will begin to utilize the newly constructed AL-161. To accomplish this, additional access management changes will be made at the intersection of Foley Beach Express and AL-161/AL-180 and AL-161 at Roscoe Road. Various roadways exiting onto AL-161 Northbound will be barricaded and alternative means for access onto AL-161 will need to be utilized. Simulations and renderings are shown in the information provided to help inform the traveling public about the changes in the flow of traffic. Additional information can be found below.
The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project. ALDOT is interested in obtaining input from the people who use this route.
