The proposed project is located on CR-337 (McCalla Road) in the City of Bessemer, Jefferson County. Existing McCalla Road is considered too narrow by modern design standards due to having 10' travel lanes and no shoulders. The project will widen McCalla Road to provide two 12' travel lanes from the Norfolk Southern Railroad to CR-20 (4th Avenue SW). Additionally, the existing intersection of McCalla Road and 4th Avenue SW will be realigned to provide better sight distance. Temporary lane closures will be necessary during construction. The proposed project would be constructed in phases.
The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is interested in obtaining input from the people who use this route.
All comments regarding this project must be submitted on or before Friday, October 23, 2026.
